About
The POWTRY Series is a quarterly haiku contest aiming to foster creativity and love for the haiku form. “Powtry” is not a typo, but a conglomeration of the word “poetry” and “pow-wow.” The POWTRY Series is meant to inspire poems that deliver a sense of “pow-wow.”
Haiku Contest FAQ
What are the contest guidelines?
- Limited to 3 haiku.
- 5-7-5 form is recommended.
- AI policy: If your work is suspected of being generated by AI, it will not be accepted.
- Please provide an English translation for haiku in other languages.
How are haiku evaluated?
- Haiku are evaluated by a number of factors. However, word choice, imagery, coherence, and relevance to the current prompt are the top factors.
What happens if I win?
- Winners will receive a $25 via PayPal. You can also be featured on our social media accounts in addition to this website page (see below).
- To ensure fairness and variety, the winner of a current contest is not eligible to participate in the immediately following contest, but may enter again in later contests.
How often is the contest? When is the next contest?
- This contest is quarterly (every 3 months).
- The next contest will be held in late March.
